No, we are strictly month-to-month.
When you start, you start. You’ll need individual attention for a while anyway.
Yes. It’s a $55.00 one-time fee and includes uniform and study materials for all those in the family signing up, irrespective of number.
Like every martial arts school, there are periodic tests, but ours are approximately once a quarter rather than monthly. This is not a “profit center” for us and are calculated to cover expenses, such as new patches or belts, review board or testing board stipends, materials costs. We are thorough and traditional in our educational approach; our students don’t “get a trophy” just for showing up, they must advance in their skills. Fees average about $30.00, but there are family discounts available.
Free sparring is done under strict Black Belt supervision and we have a track record of safety. That being said, a few bumps and bruises are not unheard of in our Art (or in life). Of course, we are insured even if we’ve never had a claim in over 3 decades of operation.
Board breaking is not allowed until at least 9 months of study and is varied by age and body weight. This exercise requires knowledgeable supervision. We do not advocate busting cigar box lids for White Belts and pretending it is a measure of power. We break real wood when we break, but faking power only teaches faking and doesn’t build real confidence.
When he or she is ready (because actual skill counts) and worthy (because attitude counts). Sorry, there are no guarantees. Schools which guarantee promotions in a fixed time-frame are selling vanity belts, not the skills and expertise required in our tradition. Our Black Belts meet a high standard and are recognized internationally.
No, the business of flattering a child (and parents) for a half-hour (“Gosh, the kid’s a natural!”) and launching into the “hard sell” isn’t our style. Besides, we’re not selling year-long contracts. Instead, our doors are open, you can come in and see what we do, talk to parents sitting there, inquire around the community, talk to teachers. There’s a reason for our longevity. And you don’t need an appointment to observe classes. And always, always, feel free to call us.
